Swatch Group Blames Samsung for Infringing upon Watch Face Trademark

27.02.2019

The introduction of Samsun latest wearable device lineup has just taken place. However, the South Korean is very likely to have problems related to infringing upon the Swiss trademark. According to the available information, Swatch Group has filed the complaint towards the South Korean manufacturer accusing it of implementing smartwatch technologies that are the part of Swatch trademark.

The globally recognized watch producer claimed that Samsung has been using its patented technology of downloadable smartwatch face designs. Swatch officials said that the Korean company used the same or virtually the same marks that referred to such popular brands as Longines, Tissot, Omega, and Swatch.

Such a situation can have pretty negative consequences for Samsung, as it can be to the detriment of its reputation, as stated by the Swiss brand representatives. The unabashed copying of trademarks might also lead to huge fines. Swatch is planning to initiate the trial demanding over $100 million from the Korean manufacturer in damages.

The official trial has already been launched in the United States in reference to Samsung America. New Gear Sport, S3 Classic, Frontier, and some other wearables from the Samsung new-gen lineup were accused of copying watch face trademarks.

Samsung official representatives refused to share comments on the situation.
